and knowing is half the battle

it's a good thing to know the difference between your neteller account and the neteller instacash thing.

for example, if you deposit some money into your neteller account, then go to pokerroom.com and withdraw $15 using the instacash thing, that money doesn't come out of your neteller account, no sir! it comes straight out of your bank account. causing all kinds of confusion and heartache down the road.

can you sense a pattern here?

after busting out of a multi table tournament (5+1), I felt I needed to return to safe ground, so I posted 3rd in another 5+1 sit&go. AK lost to JJ when the flop came K-J-x. so only down $2 for the day, but would really like to win one of those things sometime.

deja vu

I'm getting good at finishing 3rd in these damn things. this time, I could've easily come up with 2nd place, but I pushed when I shouldn't have: I had AKo, flop was K-2-x, pushed back and forth with the caller, ended up all in against 2-2, and the river 2 made quads, sending me packing. I was the other big stack at the table, the other person left had less than T1000. bad move on my part I guess. another $10 earned though.

and again

Finished 3rd in a $5+$1 sng at pokerroom.com, winning $10. that makes me +4 ctd. got busted out when I was getting blinded out anyway, pushed with 88, got called with A9s, flop comes A-9-x, turn is an A and I'm gone. I'm pleased with my performance thus far, 2 sng's, 2 money finishes. I realize that this streak won't last, but it is nice for now.

First money finish

Finally got stuff set up so I can start playing for cash. Went to pokerroom.com (lowest minimum deposit requirement) and put in $10. Quickly lost that to a couple bad beats playing $.25/$.50 NL. Sat out a couple days, put in another $15, signed up for a $10 + 1 sit & go. Came in 3rd, after folding like mad to get in the money (had the chip lead for a bit until the eventual winner took out 2 mid-size stacks one right after the other). Won $20 for my efforts. So, I'm only down $1 career-to-date. I want to start playing on partypoker.com but don't have the $$$ for their minimum deposit ($50!). I'm a cheapskate, I know.

tournament the second

registered in the pokerstars omaha hi/lo tourney (freeroll, same setup as the holdem tourney from last night).

never played omaha hi/lo before, ever.

this should be fun.

end of tournament

286th out of 6519. best finish ever in one of their freeroll satellites (top 9 places get into a weekly freeroll on sunday, top 8 in that tournament get cash, 1st place $250). had bullets twice in the first 10 hands, busted out after about 2 and a half hours when my KJs, up against AQs and 55, caught a J on the flop, but the chip leader hit the A on the turn. still, very happy with the play:

During current Hold'em session you were dealt 122 hands and saw flop:
- 8 out of 12 times while in big blind (66%)
- 3 out of 14 times while in small blind21%)
- 17 out of 96 times in other positions (17%)
- a total of 28 out of 122 (22%)
Pots won at showdown - 8 of 15 (53%)
Pots won without showdown - 4

although I really prefer that showdown percentage to be 100%.

lingo questions

while reading some of the other poker blogs, I've come up w/ some questions, on the offchance anyone ever reads this.

what is UTG?

what is the "T" notation when (presumably) talking about how many chips you have in a tournaent? does it just mean "tournament"?

first tournament thoughts (pokerstars freeroll) coming tonight...

introduction

so I've been playing poker online (and some live games) for a few months now, and thought I'd throw my hat in with all the other poker bloggers out there. hopefully I'm not just cluttering things up with this.
